About the Rhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship, established in 1902, is the world’s oldest and perhaps most prestigious international scholarship program. What the Scholarship Covers

The scholarship covers:

  • University of Oxford course fees.
  • An annual stipend (INR 20,42,496.73 / £19,092 for 2023/24).
  • Application fees, student visa fees, and International Health Surcharge.
  • Two economy-class flights to and from the UK.
  • A settling-in allowance upon arrival.

Eligibility

  • The applicant must be an Indian citizen, holding an Indian passport or equivalent proof of citizenship. PIO or OCI cardholders do not qualify. Refugees or asylum seekers in India are also eligible to apply.
  • The applicant must have completed formal education at an institution in India for at least 4 of the past 10 years.
  • The applicant must have passed a school leaving exam (10th or 12th standard or equivalent) in India or be in the final year of, or have completed, an undergraduate degree at an Indian university.
  • The applicant should be 18-23 years old on 1st October 2024 (born after 1 October 2000 and before 2 October 2006).
  • Suppose the applicant completed his/her first undergraduate degree later than usual. In that case, he/she should be under 27 years old on 1 October 2024 (born after 1 October 1997) and have completed the academic requirements for their first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2023.
  • The applicant should also possess academic excellence, leadership potential, strong character, moral force, and a commitment to public service.

  • Submission of academic transcripts.
  • A detailed personal statement outlining the applicant’s ambitions and goals.
  • Reference letters from academic and professional mentors.
  • Interviews for shortlisted candidates, which tests their intellect, character, and commitment to service.
