NavGurukul, a not-for-profit organization founded in 2016, is dedicated to providing access to aspirational careers for students from marginalized communities. Their mission focuses on creating transformative opportunities, enabling students to secure the same high-quality jobs and live the same possibilities that are typically available to those at the top of the socio-economic ladder. By offering an equitable alternative to higher education, NavGurukul equips students with not only the essential skills but also the mindsets and self-learning capabilities needed to thrive in today’s world.
NavGurukul’s flagship Residential program provides transformative educational opportunities to learners from underserved communities, offering courses in programming, finance, business, education, and design, alongside support in securing aspirational careers. The organization currently empowers over 1,145 students across seven fully funded residential centers in various states in India, with a notable focus on gender inclusion, as seven of these campuses are exclusively for female students. This focus on gender is a deliberate effort to ensure inclusivity, a core principle of NavGurukul’s mission.
The program caters to students who have completed their 10th grade and are at least 17 years old. To date, more than 1,110 students have secured software jobs with leading IT companies and startups. At these campuses, students manage their learning environment through elected student bodies, with the educational approach centered on self-paced learning and peer collaboration.
In addition to the residential program, NavGurukul runs several digital initiatives to expand its reach. Meraki offers online courses to students from government schools and ITIs, helping them develop skills in basic English, touch typing, and programming. Zuvy provides degrees through residential, online, and day-boarding modes, focusing on problem-solving, system design, and programming to prepare students for top roles in the software industry.
Samyarth, a for-profit software cooperative led by women from marginalized communities, creates a sustainable impact by offering underserved talent as a service to socially responsible organizations and governments, sharing profits among the women involved.
Code India Fellowship is a high-impact ambitious program to train girls and young women in NavGurukul campuses in software programming by onboarding high-aptitude and mission-aligned young tech graduates for a one-year fellowship or a six-month internship.
