The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India was established on October 12, 1993, under the Protection of Human Rights Act (PHRA), 1993, which was later amended by the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2006. The NHRC operates in alignment with the Paris Principles, which were adopted during the first international workshop on national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights held in Paris in October 1991, and were subsequently endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 48/134 on December 20, 1993.
The NHRC serves as a reflection of India’s commitment to promoting and protecting human rights. According to Section 2(1)(d) of the PHRA, “Human Rights” are defined as the rights related to life, liberty, equality, and dignity of individuals, as guaranteed by the Indian Constitution or outlined in international covenants, and are enforceable by the courts in India.
Besides the regular summer and winter internship programme which are held in May-June and December-January every year, NHRC also offers opportunities throughout the year except during months of May-June and December-January, to students from various streams especially from law stream, to have attachment with the Commission in batches on short-term basis for a period of 15 days.
NHRC has opened its short term internship program for 2025 and is inviting applications for 2 weeks of online internship program. This is a full time Internship Programme from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday to Friday). Students must ensure about their availability before applying.
Applications are invited from eligible students of the entire country. Eligibility and selection criteria will be as follows:-
Note: Students must have consistently attained a minimum of 60% marks in Class XII and all subsequent courses including the presently pursued courses. The calculated percentage has to be mentioned clearly from their CGPA/SGPA along with the formula for the percentage obtained. Failure to do either of it so would result in the rejection of the application form.
The Internship will continue for 2 weeks from January 27 to February 7.
