Microsoft India (R&D) Private Limited, a subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation, established the Microsoft India Development Center (MSIDC) in Hyderabad in 1998. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest R&D centres for Microsoft outside of its headquarters in Redmond.

A Silicon Engineering Intern at Microsoft is responsible for designing, developing, modifying, and evaluating electronic parts, components, or integrated circuitry for digital electronic devices and systems. The intern defines the design architecture and operating parameters for circuitry and microelectronic components, selecting components and equipment based on the analysis of specifications and reliability. They analyze designs and components to establish operating parameters and performance requirements, and define pre-silicon verification test cases. Additionally, the intern develops test plans and directs support personnel or engineers in the preparation and execution of design verification testing. They also analyze data from test results to perform pre-silicon verification of operating parameters and performance requirements.
