Summer Student Research Programme 2024

Summer Student Research Programme 2024

TIFR is inviting online applications for the Summer Student Research Programme 2024 for All Science Graduates. The last date to apply is April 20, 2024.

The Centre for Applicable Mathematics is a premier research centre specialising in mathematical analysis, theoretical and computational analysis of PDEs, and their applications. The Centre is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, a National Centre of the Government of India, under the umbrella of the Department of Atomic Energy, as well as a deemed University awarding masters and doctoral degrees. The word Applicable signifies our focus on theory and its interactions with applications. The research activities are complemented by a rigorous graduate programme leading to a PhD in mathematics.

TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics is a unique research centre, with the faculty working in both pure and applied areas of mathematics. Every year, we offer summer internships to several undergraduate and graduate students from around the country to work with faculty on various research projects, culminating sometimes in new results. These internships typically occur during the summer, though having them at another time of the year is possible. You may discuss the options once you are selected. This internship aims to expose the student to an academic research experience and help the student work towards problems of importance. The students are expected to be able to work independently and have a strong desire to be problem solvers. At the end of the internship, the students will be required to make a presentation and write a report on their work.

Summer school period: May 15 – July 31, 2024, for at least 1 month and a maximum period of 2 months.

Anyone pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mathematics, science, or engineering anywhere in India.

If selected, you will be eligible for a stipend of Rs. 7000 per month. You can avail yourself of the canteen facility at the institute, for which you will have to make payment. You can also claim a Sleeper Class (non-AC) train fare from your institute to TIFR-CAM and TIFR-CAM to your Institute on the production of a train ticket.

Due to prescheduled summer workshops, which will take up most of the summer period, we can not provide accommodations for students participating in our Summer Intern Program. We kindly request that students who apply for this program make the necessary arrangements for their accommodations. We understand this may cause inconvenience, but we want to be upfront and transparent with our limitations. Despite the setback, we are confident that our program’s coherent learning opportunities will help you excel. We value your interest and look forward to hearing from you.

The summer program presents an excellent opportunity for aspiring interns to develop valuable skills and gain practical experience in their chosen field. We remain committed to providing a safe, supportive, and rewarding environment for all participants, and we look forward to welcoming you to our program.

A list of selected candidates will tentatively be announced on our website by April 25, 2024.
