Applications are invited for the CINECA Open Hackathon 2025, hosted by NVIDIA and OpenACC. Check the details below and apply by April 29, 2025!

CINECA, in collaboration with NVIDIA and the OpenACC organization, will host a virtual Open Hackathon from June 24 to July 3, 2025.

Open Hackathons are intensive, multi-day events designed to assist computational scientists and researchers in porting, accelerating, and optimizing their applications across various data center architectures, including CPUs and GPUs.

During the event, participants will work alongside dedicated mentors with expertise in programming and application optimization, utilizing a range of programming models, libraries, and tools to achieve performance improvements and speedups.

By the end of the hackathon, teams are expected to have either successfully accelerated or optimized their applications on cutting-edge supercomputing hardware or developed a clear roadmap for leveraging these resources in the future.

The hackathon is open to all, but priority acceptance will be given to CINECA-affiliated scientists and their collaborators.

The CINECA Open Hackathon will be hosted online in the time zone of the hosting organization (Central European Summer Time – CEST). All communication will be done through Zoom, Slack, and email. Each team will be assigned to a breakout room to work with mentors on their codes and will present reports (SCRUMS) on their progress to all participants in the main room daily.

Attendees will be given access to a GPU cluster for the duration of the hackathon.

If your team is accepted for the hackathon, registration information will be provided along with mentor introductions and cluster access information. Accepted teams should:

Advanced parallel computing or GPU expertise is not a prerequisite for participation in the hackathon. However, a basic understanding of GPU programming and profiling can be beneficial. To help teams prepare, participants are encouraged to explore a range of free lectures, tutorials, and hands-on labs available to them.

For additional guidance or resources, prospective participants are advised to contact the event organizers.
