About BharatGen

BharatGen, a suite of Generative AI technologies for India,” is an innovative initiative led by TIH IIT Bombay, supported under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The initiative unites a consortium of top academic institutions, with the goal of advancing generative AI technologies and fostering a dynamic AI ecosystem tailored to meet the diverse and unique needs of India.

Generative AI Hackathon 2025

The Generative AI Hackathon offers an exciting opportunity for students at all levels—undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD—to explore the limitless potential of artificial intelligence. Participants will have the chance to push the boundaries of AI innovation, develop cutting-edge projects, network with AI experts, and compete for exciting prizes.

Each theme presents a real-world problem where the application of artificial intelligence has the potential to create significant positive impact. Explore the themes, choose the one that ignites your passion, and let your creativity soar! Our goal is to build solutions not demos, to build IPs not just use APIs.

1. Smarter Governance

Smarter Governance: Building a More Accessible and Efficient Government.

The Challenge: Making government resources transparent and easy to obtain and interact with.

Potential Problems to Solve:

  • Traffic monitoring & Crowd monitoring: Video analytics dashboard
  • Government Grievances Chatbot:
    • Helps you file the grievances on the digital form (Agentic)
    • Analytics dashboard to monitor grievances.
    • Government Scheme Navigator (Create a user-friendly platform that employs AI to enable people to easily search and obtain various services provided by the government)
  • AI-powered Government Support Law Consultant: Conversational support for navigating Indian legal framework
  • AI Scam Protector for Elderly / Android Dialer: Build an Android application which utilizes text-to-speech. recognition to find and prevent mobile phone fraud through sms. (National Cyber Crime Department)

2. Indian Culture & Heritage

Indian Culture & Heritage Showcase: Igniting a Cultural Renaissance.

The Challenge: India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage is both breathtaking and vulnerable. They need innovative AI applications to preserve, celebrate, and share this heritage with the world, inspiring future generations to connect with their roots.

Potential Problems to Solve:

  • Cultural Dressing Virtual Photoshoot: Develop an augmented reality application that allows users to virtually “try on” traditional Indian clothing and accessories, creating shareable photos and promoting cultural appreciation.
  • Indian Classical Dance Pose Identification & Generator: Design an AI that identifies and generates key poses of Indian Classical dance.
  • AI-Powered Indian Art Styles Converter: Create an image generator for generating images in Indian art styles.
  • Festival & Ritual Guide Chatbot: Develop an interactive chatbot that provides information on Indian festivals and rituals, promoting cultural understanding and participation.
  • Virtual Heritage Tour Guide: Create a platform that allows users to explore Indian historical sites and landmarks virtually, providing interactive information and engaging multimedia content.

3. Medical Care Accessibility and Affordability & Mental Health

The Challenge: Access to quality and affordable healthcare remains a significant hurdle, especially in underserved communities. We need smart AI solutions that lower costs, improve access, and empower individuals to manage their health & mental health more effectively.

Potential Problems to Solve:

  • Talking Camera for Low Vision/Elderly: Develop an application that uses camera and text-to-speech technology to read text/newspapers aloud, and describe surroundings.
  • Medical Support Chatbot (One or multiple tasks)
    • Parental Support Chatbot (ADHD/Autism) Chatbot: Develop a chatbot that offers information, resources, and coping strategies for parents of children with ADHD and autism.
    • Adult ADHD/Autism Support Chatbot: Design a platform that provides support, resources, and coping mechanisms for adults living with ADHD or autism, fostering a sense of community and reducing feelings of isolation. (+ Tutor for school support 1:1 customized support NHS recommends)
    • AI-Driven Wellness Tips and Meditation Guide: AI Develop a solution with access to home remedies to manage mental health and provide a quick meditation session for students or someone who is in urgent need.
    • PCOD Assistant Chatbot: Create an AI-powered assistant that provides information on PCOD, suggests home/community/indigenous solutions remedies, and helps users track symptoms and manage their condition (Note: Advise users to consult with medical professionals.)
    • Prescription Assistant Support Chatbots:
      • Savings Aid: Build an AI-driven prescription scanner that identifies generic alternatives and calculates cost savings for medications.
      • Adherence Assistant: Design an application that generates easy-to-follow medication schedules and reminders, integrating with calendar and notification systems.
      • Expiry Date Checker: Develop a solution that uses image recognition to automatically identify and alert users to expired medications.
  • AI-Powered Emotional Support Diary. Diary which speaks back to you: Create an interactive “emotional diary” that prompts users with thoughtful questions and provides empathetic responses, promoting self-reflection and emotional well-being.

4. Education: Personalized Learning for the Future

The Challenge: Traditional education often follows a one-size-fits-all approach. We need AI solutions that personalize the learning experience, provide targeted support, and empower individuals to reach their full potential.

Potential Problems to Solve:

  • AI-Powered Career Navigator Chatbot: Develop a platform that uses AI to match individuals with suitable career paths, providing personalized guidance and identifying necessary skills.
  • Personalized Revision Buddy/Tutor Chatbot: Create an AI tutor that adapts to individual learning styles and provides tailored practice questions, explanations, and feedback.
  • Study Routine Coach & Motivation Chatbot: Design a chatbot that helps students create effective study routines, providing motivational support and time management tips.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students can be of any discipline of engineering/science of undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), or doctoral (PhD) course to be eligible for the hackathon.
  • Undergraduate (UG) Students should have completed the first (engineering/science) year program.
  • Students admitted to UG, PG, and PhD. programs at IITs, NITs, and other AICTE/UGC-approved institutions

Idea Selection Criteria

Post Idea submission process, the ideas will be evaluated by experts. Evaluation criteria will include Functionality & Technical Implementation, Feasibility & Practicality, User Experience & Design, Impact & Relevance and Innovation & Creativity.

  • Prize Money Award: Winner INR 1,00,000, 1st Runner-up INR 60,000 and 2nd Runner-up INR 30,000.

Mode of Grand Finale

Generative AI Hackathon 2025 Grand Finale will be held offline in New Delhi and teams must travelled to New Delhi. The tentative date for the hackathon is 2nd/3rd week of June 2025.

How to Apply?

  • The team leader must fill out the application form on behalf of the group.
  • Applications will only be accepted through the application form.
  • The selected team members should obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) in the given (NOC format) from their Institute.
  • This letter will be required during the grand finale, if the team is selected for grand finale.
  • The team can make only one project application in the registration form.

However, for applying for more than one projects they will have to do separate registrations.
