About IIT Mandi

The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) is one of eight newer Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). IIT Mandi is a research university now located in Kathmandu Valley, Mandi city in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, and has 132 faculties with 1,655 students enrolled at undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels. Currently, the university has 1,141 alumni. Since its inception, the institute has been involved with more than 275 Research and Development (R&D) projects worth more than Rs. 120 crores.

Foreign Nationals

Candidates who are not citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) and /or are OCI/PIO card holders will be treated as foreign nationals and will consume the seats of foreign nationals. For fellowship, they should fulfill the requirement of the sponsoring agency/authority. They must meet minimum education requirements applicable to regular students. International students are expected to have a working knowledge of English.

Application Fee

  • The Application fee for General/EWS/OBC/OBC (NCL)/Transgender/Foreign Nationals is Rs. 200.
  • The Women/SC/ST/PD application fee is Rs.100.

Note

Mode of Payment: SBI Collect Portal. Applicant should submit the fee on SBI collect portal of the IIT Mandi and submit generated transaction number to the OAS admission application portal (https://www.onlinesbi.com/sbicollect/icollecthome.htm). One application fee is valid for a single application. The application fee is non-refundable.

Basis of Selection

The Institute reserves the right to provide admission via COAP 2023. If required, the admissions committee can call a limited number of candidates for written test/interview/counseling/spot admission or combination, based on performance in GATE, grades/marks in the qualifying examination, UG, etc. Reservation policies as per prevailing rules will be followed.

How to Apply?

  • Candidates should apply online only using the link: http://oas.iitmandi.ac.in/admission.
    • For any problems regarding filling-up out online applications, please send mail to (oassupport@iitmandi.ac.in).
  • It is mandatory for all candidates to register at Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP; https://coap.iitkgp.ac.in/) and the COAP registration number is mandatory for filling out the application form. Admission offers will be made through the COAP portal. The applicant is responsible for the information provided. IIT Mandi or COAP does not take any responsibility for the wrong information provided by the candidates and further consequences.
  • For each specialization, candidates should submit a separate application with the application fee.

  • GATE Score Exemption: The GATE score is exempted for the candidates if they satisfy the following conditions:
    • For M . Tech (Research) Program: Candidate with B.Tech/BE degree from Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs), with a minimum CGPA of 7.5 on a 10.0 point scale. OR The candidate applying for M.Tech (Research) program under the self-sponsored seat category without fellowship.
    • For M . Tech Program: Candidates graduating/ graduated from IITs with B.Tech. Degree and having a CGPA (cumulative grade point average) of 8.0 (on a scale of 10) are exempted from the GATE score.

  • The eligibility criteria mentioned above are minimum and the shortlisting committee(s) may use higher cut-off levels for shortlisting.
  • The shortlisting criterion may be different for different programs. Declaration of merit list may be announced separately from different schools for mentioned programs.
  • There will not be any direct communication with the candidates regarding the admission process, shortlisting criteria, etc. They have to visit the IIT Mandi website (www.iitmandi.ac.in) for any updates related to admissions, if any.
  • Candidates appearing for final examinations of their B.Tech. program with a valid GATE 2023 score can also apply. Admission is offered provisionally for such candidates. At the time of the Interview / Written Test / Counseling / Spot Admissions or combination or at the time of joining, they must bring a certificate in original from the head of the Institute stating that by 30th July 2023 (or the date notified by the Institute), she/he will have appeared for the examination in all subjects required for obtaining his/her B.Tech. degree. In case such candidates fail to secure the above-mentioned qualification, the provisional admission will be terminated with immediate effect.
  • IIT Mandi reserves the right to admit / not admit for any of the advertised areas.
  • If the candidate does not satisfy the eligibility and merit list criteria even after getting the offer letter, their candidature will be terminated.

First preference

Shall be considered for shortlisting the received admission applications. Applicants are advised to fill in the program and specialization preference carefully on the OAS application portal.

Self-finance (without fellowship)

This admission category is open for only M.Tech (Research) programs. Candidates submitting applications under this category are exempted from GATE qualification; however, they should not register in COAP for admission. Only they need to submit an application to the IIT Mandi application portal, with data for GATE as “Not Applicable” and application under the “Self-finance (without fellowship)” category. They will get a call for counseling/interview (tentatively Jul 24-28, 2023) at IIT Mandi, if the seat will be vacant after COAP 2023 counseling.
