Registrations are open for National Women’s Coding Competition for Entrepreneurship at NIT Calicut for the year 2023.
About
The theme for the National Women Coding Competition for Entrepreneurship with SDGs’ is India’s G20 Presidency and United Nations Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs). India assumed the Presidency of the G20 for one year from December 1, 2022.
This is an opportunity to innovate for a better India and also suggest innovative coding solutions for resolving global problems in various sectors for women in India. It is a unique opportunity for female school/UG/PG students to solve local and global problems through coding.
Problem Statement & Solution
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by all member states of the United Nations, as a road map to achieve peace and prosperity on the planet, encouraging global development. The participants can identify and choose any one of the 17 SDG themes and can provide their innovative solution through coding.
Combining basic elements of coding and computational thinking with the SDGs and providing solutions is the one expected from the participants. The participants must focus on two key aspects of the problem and solution to:
- Be innovative and provide a value-added solution using your coding skills
- Be focused on any of the sustainable development goals
Eligibility
The competition is open only to female School or Under Graduate or Post Graduate students of India, who are currently enrolled as regular/full-time students at an educational institution in India. Application must be done only through the link provided at CWSE NIT Calicut official website.
Guidelines
The participants can choose their theme for problem statement and solution from any one of the following SDGs :
- No poverty
- Zero hunger
- Good health and well-being
- Quality education
- Gender equality
- Clean water and sanitation
- Affordable and clean energy
- Decent work and economic growth
- Industry, innovation and infrastructure
- Reduces inequalities
- Sustainable cities and communities
- Responsible consumption and production
- Climate action
- Life below water
- Life on land
- Peace, justice and strong institutions
- Partnerships for the goals
Stages
Stage I
- Fill out all the required information in the application form along with an approved ID proof provided by the school/college with photo identification details.
- Make a report on the identified problem statement, its solution and the Python script details and upload it as a .pdf file at the time of application.
- Create a video or video screen capture of your code running live in the computer. Upload your video in your own YouTube channel and provide the link. Please make sure the video link is public.
- The uploaded video should be authentic, no plagiarism is accepted. All report submissions must be in English
- Applicants have to pay a registration fee to participate in the competition. An early registration fee of Rs. 499/- is available up to 20th July 2023. The registration fee is Rs. 699/- from 21st July to 31st July 2023.
Stage II
The shortlisted candidates from Stage I must present their idea, solution and the Python code in front of a panel of experts in an offline presentation at NIT Calicut.
Evaluation Criteria
The evaluation criteria are based on the following factors but are not limited to:
- Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals
- Originality of the identified problem and its solution
- Effectiveness of the solution by means of Python programming and coding
- Future ease of implementation of the provided solution
- Potential direct impact on SDG
- Originality of the scripting solution provided
Prizes
Cash prizes would be awarded to the First and Second Prize winners in Category I (School Students) and Category II (Regular/Full time UG or PG College Students). All participants will be given Certificates of Appreciation from NIT Calicut in accordance with the terms and conditions.
