About the Hackathon
With the successful completion of HARBINGER 2021, it is time for the next edition of the RBI global hackathon – ‘HARBINGER 2023 – Innovation for transformation’ with a new theme and new set of problem statements.
The objective of RBI Global Hackathon Harbinger 2023
In order to encourage innovation in these areas, the Reserve Bank of India is organizing its second global hackathon – HARBINGER 2023 with the theme ‘Inclusive Digital Services’ with four problem statements to shape the future of digital financial services in India.
- India has witnessed significant development in the fintech sector, which is transforming the delivery of financial services through innovative products and services.
- Whether it is payment systems or credit delivery, new-age technology has been playing an impactful role.
- Services like UPI123Pay, digitalization of rural finance, open banking in the form of Account Aggregator framework, and pilot launch of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) are efforts towards making financial services more inclusive, accessible, and secure.
Problem Statements
- Innovative, easy-to-use, digital banking services for the differently abled (Divyaang).
- RegTech solutions to facilitate more efficient compliance by Regulated Entities (REs).
- Exploring use cases/solutions for CBDC retail transactions, including transactions in offline mode.
- Increasing Transactions Per Second (TPS)/ throughput and scalability of blockchains.
Who Can Apply?
All entities, teams, or individuals (eighteen years and above) who are eligible to enter into a contractual agreement are eligible to apply. Further, the product/solution should have an element of innovation or novel application of technology serving the common good. Participants from all backgrounds and geographies are welcome, albeit knowledge about the Indian financial services market and consumers is preferred. All relevant and impactful solutions will be considered irrespective of the stage.
Prizes
Being part of HARBINGER 2023 gives an opportunity the participants to get mentored by industry experts and exhibit their innovative solutions before an eminent jury and win exciting prizes in each category.
- Winner: ₹40 lakh
- Runner-up: ₹20 lakh
How to Apply?
The hackathon is owned and sponsored by the Reserve Bank of India and is hosted on Application Programming Interface Exchange (APIX) platform.
- Applications will be received only through the online process. RBI will shortlist the most promising solutions for further stages of the hackathon.
- Click here to register for the hackathon and submit the proposal after registration.
- Once registered, select the problem statement, and submit your proposal. Please fill in the responses for all the proposal questions.
- You may apply for more than one problem statement if you fulfill all the criteria set out in each category.
- Your solution can aim to address the needs covered by more than one problem statement.
- We are looking at the uniqueness of the proposition and the feasibility of the business model to achieve the desired goal.
