About the Hackathon

The hackathon starts on September 12th with an online launch event. You’ll meet the Encode and Onyx teams, as well as the hackathon partners, who will tell you all about the available bounties and upcoming technical workshops. The launch event will be followed by a series of workshops hosted by Encode Club, Onyx by J.P. Morgan, and the hackathon partners, aiming to help you build and ship a hackathon project in just four weeks. You’ll have three weeks to build and submit a project. The best submissions will be invited to pitch live in the hackathon finale event and compete for the top prizes. The different categories of the hackathon are:

  • Finance & Identity Intersection
    Explore the utilization of digital identities and verifiable credentials for enhancing trust, security, and inclusion for financial services products and services such as payments, investing, banking and lending.
  • Social Identity Integration
    Develop social applications utilizing digital identities for improving user engagement, privacy, and ownership.
  • Privacy
    Enable privacy-preserving use of verifiable credentials on the blockchain or enable a privacy-preserving way of sharing verifiable credentials off-chain for various application domains.
  • Identity Innovation Spectrum
    Foster innovative solutions in any sector where digital identity can bring significant benefits, with a particular focus on tooling, governance, onboarding, improving existing user experience or other broad applications.
  • SDK Specific Challenges
    OIDC Support, More DID Methods, JSON-LD, Revocation, SD-JWT

Do I need a team?

No, you can hack solo. If you’d like to form a team you can find others in the competition portal.

Yes! The Encode team will offer support during this hackathon.

Do I own what I build?

Yes, you/your team is the sole owner of your project.

Can I enter an existing project?

Yes, you can, but only if your project hasn’t raised significant funding already and significant feature changes have been made.
