Hackarena is an exciting and innovative hackathon organized by the DDUC ACM Student Chapter and Sanganika, from the Department of Computer Science at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College under the aegis of the DBT Star College Program and Science Foundation. This event brings together bright minds to collaborate, compete, and create cutting-edge solutions. Participants will have the chance to showcase their coding, problem-solving, and creative skills while working on real-world challenges. Themes
Participants will get to solve real-world challenges under the following domains:
- Theme 1: Mobile App for Plant Species Identification
- Participants will develop a mobile application integrated with a deep learning model capable of accurately identifying plant species from uploaded images. The app must:
- Focus on native Indian plant species.
- Provide detailed region-specific information such as medicinal uses and conservation status.
- Prioritize accuracy for indigenous species.

- Participants will design a deep learning model or an NLP pipeline that can detect sarcasm in multilingual social media posts, particularly in code-mixed text (e.g., sentences combining English, regional languages, and Hindi). The solution should:
- Generalize across multiple languages.
- Account for informal language, emojis, slang, and cultural references.

Competition Format
This hackathon will be conducted in two rounds:
- Round 1: Online Submission (5:00 pm, February 21 – 5:00 pm, February 25, 2025)
- Teams for theme 1 must submit their final app and code zip file containing deep learning model.
- Teams for theme 2 must submit a test CSV file,and code zip file containing model responses in the required format.
- Submissions will be evaluated based on accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to the theme.
- Shortlisted teams will be notified to advance to Round 2.
- Dataset will be uploaded at 5:00 pm on Feb 21.
- Round 2: Offline Presentation in the College (11:00 am, February 28, 2025)
- Venue: Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, Sector 3, Dwarka, New Delhi – 110078, India
- Shortlisted teams will present their approach using a PowerPoint presentation.
- Teams will explain the methodologies used, challenges faced, and improvements made.
- The final evaluation will be based on model performance, innovation, and presentation.
