1. The Bank Internship Program by World Bank

The Bank Internship Program (BIP) offers highly motivated individuals an opportunity to be exposed to the mission and work of the World Bank. The internship allows individuals to bring new perspectives, innovative ideas and research experience into the Bank’s work while improving skills in a diverse environment.

Eligibility Criteria

  • To be eligible for an Internship, candidates must have an undergraduate degree and be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a master’s degree or PhD with plans to return to school full-time).
  • There is no age limit.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese is desirable. Other skills such as computing skills are advantageous.

Deadlines

The WB Internship is offered twice a year:

  • Summer Internship (May–September): The application period is December 1–January 31 each year.
  • Winter Internship (November–March): The application period is October 1-31 each year.

J1 visa holders need to obtain a G4 visa abroad prior to starting employment or unpaid internship at the WB.

2. The UNICEF Internship Programme

The UNICEF Internship Programme offers students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with UNICEF through global internship opportunities.

Interns at UNICEF get experiential learning opportunities in the humanitarian sector and a meaningful internship experience that will support their academic, professional and personal development.

  • Duration: The duration of an internship is normally between six and twenty-six weeks. Internships can be on a full-time or a part-time basis.
  • Expenses: UNICEF provides a monthly stipend to interns. A one-time lump sum, as a contribution towards travel and visa costs, may also be granted when funding is available.
  • Visa: If necessary, UNICEF will provide relevant supporting documents for our visa applications.

Eligibility

3. Caltech SURF (The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships)

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) program is one of the “crown jewels” of Caltech. Since 1979, SURF students have had the opportunity to conduct research under the guidance of experienced mentors working at the frontier of their fields. SURF is modelled on the grant-seeking process:

  • Students collaborate with a potential mentor to define and develop a project
  • Applicants write research proposals as part of the application process
  • Faculty review the proposals and recommend awards
  • Students carry out the work over a 10-week period during the summer
  • At the conclusion of the program, students submit a technical paper and give an oral presentation at one of several SURF Seminar Days, symposia modelled on a professional technical meeting.

4. OECD Internship Program

The OECD Internship Programme is designed to bring highly qualified and motivated students with diverse backgrounds into the Organisation to work on projects linked to the Strategic Orientations of the Secretary-General and to support the corporate functions of the Organisation. Its main goal is to give successful candidates the opportunity to improve their analytical and technical skills in an international environment.

The Internship Programme is open on an ongoing basis. Students enrolled on a fully accredited degree programme (Bachelor, Master, PhD) during the entire duration of their internship can apply online. Selected interns are on-boarded both remotely and in a hybrid form until further notice.

Internships are open for students who:

  • Are enrolled in a full-time degree programme for the duration of the internship in a field or discipline related to the work of the OECD;
  • Are available for a minimum internship duration of one month;
  • Have an excellent command of one of the two official languages of the OECD (English and French) and working knowledge of, or willingness to learn the other. Knowledge of other languages used at the OECD would be an advantage;
  • Possess solid quantitative and IT skills;
  • Demonstrate excellent drafting and communication skills;
  • Are capable of working in a multicultural and international team environment.

The majority of internships are based in Paris, France. Internships are primarily allocated to OECD member country nationals, while also open to non-OECD Member country nationals for specific programmes and projects across OECD-affiliated bodies and agencies (e.g. International Tax Forum, ITF, NEA).

  • Deadline: Applications for the internship are welcome throughout the year, giving you the flexibility to apply whenever you are ready.
  • Stipend: A monthly stipend of up to 700 Euros will be provided to cover living expenses.
  • Duration: The internship will last for a period of 1 to 6 months.

The Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Internship Program (HIP) provides undergraduate students with a focused and challenging summer research experience in a cutting-edge stem cell science laboratory. 6. Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program [The University of Sydney]

Our Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program offers engineering, computer science and project management research experience by working on real projects alongside respected and accomplished key researchers at the University of Sydney. You’ll be working and interacting with fellow students interested in pursuing a career in research and have access to a suite of research training and workshops.

By participating in a research program with us, you’ll:

  • Work with area experts and renowned researchers within the Faculty of Engineering on real-life engineering, computer science and project management research projects;
  • Develop and improve not only your research skills, but also effective communication, project and time management skills, and critical analysis;
  • Attend a suite of research workshops that will prepare you for a future research career; and be part of a network and community of researchers in engineering, computer science and project management.
  • Our research program is open each summer and winter to students currently enrolled at an Australian University.

Internship Dates

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, you need to:

  • Be an enrolled undergraduate or postgraduate coursework student at the University of Sydney or another Australian university
  • Have achieved a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 75 (or equivalent) in your most recent undergraduate or postgraduate coursework academic transcript
  • Have completed at least 96 credit points (or equivalent) at the time of application (for undergraduate applicants)
  • Have completed at least two years of a bachelor’s degree or be enrolled in a master’s degree, and
  • Have the background knowledge, skills and experience required for your nominated research projects.

Scholarship

  • All applicants will be considered for a scholarship. A selection committee will review and select recipients for the Scholarship.
  • Scholarships are valued at $500-$600 per week for up to 6 or 8 weeks and are awarded subject to completing mid-project and final submission requirements as outlined by the project supervisor.
  • The Faculty of Engineering Vacation Research Internship Program Scholarship is valued at $500 per week for up to 6 weeks during winter and 8 weeks during summer.
  • Tom Yim Scholarship is valued at $600 per week for up to 8 weeks.
  • Open to Sydney University students only and only available during the summer program.

7. ISTERNSHIP SUMMER PROGRAM and SCIENTIFIC INTERNSHIPS (IST, Austria)

There are two ways in which you can apply to do an internship at ISTA: the ISTernship summer program and year-round scientific internships.

  • The ISTernship summer program is an internship program with a centralized application and admissions process.
    • The benefits of joining the ISTernship program are that you will be part of an international group of interns and have the opportunity to showcase your research results in an ISTernship symposium, attend mini-lectures on a range of research topics specially offered to ISTerns, as well as obtain additional support with housing.
    • This is a prestigious program where you have ample opportunity to take part in the vibrant research scene at ISTA.
  • The second way you can join as an intern is through year-round scientific internships, which is where you get in touch directly with the faculty member whom you’re interested in working with and agree with them on when the internship start and end dates will be.
  • The duration of these internships can be up to one year.
  • Which route you opt for depends mostly on your availability.
