Responsibilities
- Learn on-the-job experience on the various CAD applications, their capabilities and their use, through the means of self-paced tutorials and everyday real-world experiences.
- First-level general Helpdesk support for End-Users, providing local Site support in Auburn Hills (MI), while working on remote support for various other Sites.
- Focus on proper operation of CAD computer hardware and CAD applications; AutoCAD, Creo, NX, CATIA v5, and Solidworks among others.
- Provide user hardware support for workstation, printer, and plotter issues.
- Provide general IT Support to Site employees as needed.
- Assist with backup and archive operations as well as disaster recovery (DR) and high-availability (HA)
- Continued development into a strong and effective team player while working with a geographically distributed CAD support team.
- Ensure documentation standards are created and adhered to.
- Participate in projects and testing as required.
- Research, troubleshoot and resolve issues reported via Helpdesk.
- Ability to track and close tickets in the Helpdesk queue.
- Build relationships within the global organization, but also locally, to assist in meeting Site-specific needs.
Experience
- At a minimum, a High School diploma and in the process of obtaining either a four-year bachelor’s degree, an Associate’s degree (A. A.) or an equivalent from a two-year College or technical school in Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science.
- This is a year-round internship and the right candidate must be available to work during the school year and during the summer break.
Required Technical Skill Sets
- Novice computer skills with a minimum of “basic-to-moderate” skills in the operation of computer hardware and software; including but not limited to MS Office, Internet Explorer/Chrome/Firefox, e-mail, and more.
- Primary operating system knowledge of Windows is required. Additionally, basic knowledge/skills with UNIX/Linux operating systems are a big plus.
- Conceptual understanding of basic networking and network protocols such as TCP/IP, RDP, SSH, and SFTP.
- Conceptual understanding of basic wired and wireless networking.
- Aptitude for learning quickly and a strong desire to become a computer support expert.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
- General computer experience at home supporting friends and family is a plus.
