Job Summary

GE Aerospace Research is expanding its Software Controls and Optimization team and is seeking exceptional researchers to join this exciting journey. The team focuses on innovating and executing the R&D strategy for GE Aerospace, addressing a variety of challenges—from developing inspection solutions for aircraft engines to creating predictive and prescriptive analytics aimed at enhancing process efficiencies across the business.

Job Description

GE Aerospace Research is seeking highly motivated individuals with a proven track record in natural language processing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to join their team as Research Interns.

  • Interns will collaborate with scientists to develop search and recommendation systems to boost Engineering teams’ productivity.
  • Responsibilities include designing and implementing algorithms for processing Aerospace domain data, conducting experiments, evaluating results, and documenting findings through publications and invention disclosures.
  • Interns will also present their results to key stakeholders, while tackling unique challenges in the Aerospace domain, such as data quality, domain-specific vocabulary, and integrating NLP/LLM-based solutions into safety-critical, regulated workflows.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a full-time Master’s or PhD Degree program in Computer Science, Electronics, Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical or related Engineering field with specialization in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, AI or Statistics.
  • At least one year of experience conducting independent research, ideally in the following areas: large language models, Entity and Relationship extraction, and Zero / Few-shot Learning.
  • Proficient in implementing algorithms, data pipelines and solutions in Python.
  • Self-starter, ability to work in ambiguous environments, and excellent communication skills.

Desired Skill Sets

  • Enrolled in a PhD Degree program with at least three years of experience in conducting independent research.
  • Previous experience in training, fine-tuning (including instruction-tuning), and deploying Large Language Models.
  • Proven track record of publications at top AI conferences (or co-located workshops).
  • Experience of working with problems and data from industrial domains (Aviation, Energy, Healthcare, Manufacturing, etc.).
  • Strong foundations in design, analysis, and implementation of algorithms in different computing architectures is desired.
  • Experience with computer vision algorithms is a plus.
