About DST
The GenomeIndia Project aims to generate a high-quality reference genome dataset for the Indian population.
The project focuses on genomic diversity, rare diseases, and translational research to benefit healthcare and biomedical applications. This data call invites proposals to utilize GenomeIndia data for research in areas like precision medicine, population genetics, and disease prediction.

Scope of the Proposal
- Proposals should leverage GenomeIndia datasets for:
- Understanding genetic diversity
- Developing computational tools for genomic data analysis
- Identifying disease-associated variants
- Enhancing healthcare solutions based on genomics
- Multidisciplinary proposals integrating AI/ML, bioinformatics, and healthcare technologies are encouraged.
Eligibility Criteria
- Indian research institutions, universities, and healthcare organizations with expertise in genomics.
- Startups & industry collaborations with a research focus in bioinformatics/genomics.
- Principal Investigators (PIs) with a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
Who can apply?
- Submission Guidelines
- Proposals must include:
- Detailed project plan outlining objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.
- Ethical and regulatory considerations in compliance with data protection norms.
- Budget estimation and timeline for project completion.
- Applications must be submitted through the designated online portal.
- Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Scientific merit and feasibility
- Societal and healthcare impact
- Innovation in data utilization
- Ethical compliance and data security measures
- A review committee will shortlist and approve proposals.
Funding & Support
- The selected projects will receive:
- Financial grants covering research expenses, computational resources, and manpower.
- Access to GenomeIndia datasets for approved research.
- Collaboration opportunities with GenomeIndia consortium members.
- The Department envisages grants-in-aid support for focused, multi-institutional projects of up to 2 years duration with the budgetary requirement per project shall not exceed Rs 50 Lakhs.
- NR cost should not be more than 20% of the total proposed cost and should mainly include compute and storage infrastructure-related budget.
