About IEEE Data Port

IEEE DataPort is a globally accessible data platform developed and offered by IEEE that provides significant benefits to researchers, data analysts, and the global technical community.

About Global Climate Change Dataset Upload Contest

IEEE’s mission is to advance technology for the benefit of humanity, and today, climate change is one of the most significant threats to humanity. This is why IEEE DataPort is focused on making research in this area available so the global technical community can do what it does best – innovate for the greater good. To that end, IEEE DataPort is hosting a dataset upload contest specifically for research focused on evaluating the impact of and finding solutions for climate change.

  • This dataset upload contest is designed to encourage authors and researchers to bring their climate change research to the forefront of the global technical community.
  • Anyone who uploads a qualifying dataset to IEEE DataPort between August 1 at 12:00 am EDT and October 31, 2023, at 11:59 pm EST, will have the opportunity to enter the 2023 dataset upload contest for a chance to win one of three cash prizes.

Rewards

Candidates will have the opportunity to enter the 2023 dataset upload contest for a chance to win one of three cash prizes:

  • First place: $10,000
  • First runner-up: $5,000
  • Second runner-up: $5,000

Winners will be selected based on the value and impact of research data in supporting global solutions to climate change, as determined by a panel of IEEE volunteers, as well as the completeness of the entry, including usability of data files and instructions, complete metadata, detailed abstract, and imagery.

  • Topics of the submitted research datasets may include but are not limited to, greenhouse gas emissions, changing weather patterns, ocean health, sea levels, water scarcity, flooding, saltwater intrusion, wildfires, polar ice measurements, and impact on specific populations.
  • Data may be focused on understanding the science of climate change or developing solutions for climate change.
  • When uploading either a standard or an open-access climate change-related dataset to IEEE DataPort during this time, users need to review and agree to the official rules of the contest and select the Climate Change/Environmental category to enter the contest.
