Applications are invited for Deputy General Manager (IT) at IIM Calcutta for the year 2023. The last date of application is 4 October.

Eligibility

Essential:

  • B.E./B.Tech. in Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Computer Technology/Computer Science & Engineering/Information Technology/ECE with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognized University/Institute. OR
  • M.C.A. or M.Sc. (Computer Science/IT) with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA from a recognized University/Institute.

Experience: Minimum 12 (Twelve) years relevant professional experience in reputed organizations in the field of IT; visioning, designing, architecting, implementing and servicing information systems/ information technology platforms to achieve organizational strategy and execution excellence.

Age: Preferably Up to 50 years as on last date of applications.

Key Skills

  • Proven experience in digital transformation- strategy, roadmap and full lifecycle of execution- in India or abroad.
  • Demonstrate both cultural compatibility and change agent capability to achieve short term and long term goals of the digital transformation program.
  • Experience in managing campus site and providing campus wide connectivity.
  • Experience in change management in various organizational contexts by working with sponsors, coaching key personnel, training users and managing resistance.
  • v) Ability to run very large complex projects or a portfolio of small projects.
  • Ability to implement best practices and continuous improvement in IT service management.
  • Excellent communication, influencing skills, judgement, analytical skills, management skills such as project management, time management, supervision, negotiation and systems thinking.
  • Sharp focus on automating repeatable tasks and reducing operational overheads.

Job Responsibilities

  • Be abreast of the way technology is being used in the educational institute space and evaluate the applicability in the IIMC context.
  • Engage with the entire cross-section of users and stakeholders to identify problems, requirements, wish-lists, needs, metrics to design, execute and monitor the digital transformation program.
  • Streamline, standardize and automate processes with the intent to eliminate waste, improve efficiency and develop insights.
  • Take the Institute-wide view to identify opportunities, impacts, risks and interdependencies with other Institute-wide initiatives and conduct periodic reviews.
  • Proactively communicate with stakeholders to keep them updated on planning, roadmap, execution status, launch, its impact, learnings, etc.
  • Integrate change management activities into overall project plans and work closely with stakeholders to ensure alignment.
  • Select and manage vendors in compliance with institutional policies and control mechanisms.
  • Application and Technology Landscape:
    • Identifying applications to support processes in different user departments using a consultative approach.
    • Preparing software requirement specifications and request for proposal documents (RFP).
    • Ensuring compatibility and inter-operability of applications supporting different departments- both existing and new applications.
    • Ensuring proper evaluation of vendors regarding integration requirements.
    • Mitigating risks due to data inconsistencies across applications.
    • Tracking and monitoring usage of various applications.
    • Ensuring the smooth running of all current application software, including academic, administrative and process support software.
    • Securing Institute data from internal and external attack.
    • Assessing the suitability of alternative software environments to the existing application landscape in the Institute.
    • Institutionalize new applications through training, adoption workshops, etc.
  • Network and Hardware Infrastructures:
    • Liaisoning with the ISPs to ensure continued availability of Internet access.
    • Carrying out regular audits of the IT infrastructure of the Institute.
    • Monitoring the performance of hardware and software systems installed in the Institute and suggest pre-emptive maintenance activities (or, if necessary, procurement) for these systems.
    • Monitoring the performance of the campus network on a regular basis and suggest changes to the infrastructure as and when needed for betterment.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Coordinating with computer services team and the procurement department in executing procurement process.
    • Formulating service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Project Management:
    • Forming project committees and organizing regular meetings of the project committees to coordinate with the stakeholders and vendors.
    • Monitoring progress and keeping track of projects and the milestones achieved.
    • Ensuring vendors to comply with all terms and conditions mentioned in the contract agreement.
    • Ensuring smooth go-live and handover on completion, of development and implementation of projects are successful.
    • Preparing reports on key IT assets, licenses, maintenance and costs.
  • Any other relevant jobs as assigned by the Competent Authority from time to time.

Salary

A consolidated emolument of Rs.1.50 lakh per month (negotiable), based on the experience and job profile of the candidate. In case the incumbent is availing the Institute’s accommodation, 15% of the consolidated emoluments will be deducted.

In addition to the consolidated emoluments, the other benefits includes medical reimbursement, mediclaim insurance etc. as per the Institute’s policy. The salary will be revised annually based on performance as per Institute policy. The salary will not be a constraint for deserving candidates.

Duration

This is a contractual position for a period of 03 (Three) years only. During the engagement, Candidate may opt out from service of the Institute or the Institute may terminate the engagement, by giving 30 (thirty) days written notice by either side.
