About IIT BHU SERB INAE
IIT (BHU),in collaboration with the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) and the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) is organizing a workshop on ‘Sustainability in Water & Environment’ on February 26 and 27, 2024. Thirty (30) young women engineers (< 45 years of age) from Engineering and Technological Institutions/Universities covering eight Northern Indian states (Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar) will participate in this workshop.
Keeping in mind the large footfall of pilgrimages and tourists, sessions on ‘Water and Environment’ have been planned, which will discuss various engineering-based technological solutions to mitigate the problem of pollution (including in the river Ganges) due to various wastes, emissions from vehicles, etc. Eminent speakers are invited to deliver lectures highlighting their research work to address
the above-mentioned challenges.
Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), DST
The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) is a statutory body established through an Act of Parliament. Supporting basic research in emerging areas of Science & Engineering is the primary and distinctive mandate of the Board.
SERB aims to build up the best management systems that would match the best global practices in promoting and funding basic research. Promotes basic research in Science and Engineering and Provides financial assistance to persons engaged in such research, academic institutions, research and development laboratories, industrial concerns and other agencies for such research and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto are the primary and distinctive mandates of the Board.
Indian National Academy of Engineers (INAE)
The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), founded in 1987 is an Autonomous Professional Body partly supported by granting aid from the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. INAE comprises India’s most distinguished engineers,
engineer-scientists, and technologists covering the entire spectrum of engineering disciplines.
INAE functions as an apex body and promotes the practice of Engineering and technology and the related sciences for their application to solve national problems. The Prime Minister of India inaugurated INAE on 11 April 1988. Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi. The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi owes its existence to Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the founder of the first residential University of modern India, Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Over the past century, the Institute has added several chapters of transformations to its journey, since its inception as Banaras Engineering College (BENCO) in 1919 with the augmentation of the College of Mining and Metallurgy (MINMET) in 1923, and College of Chemical Technology in 1932, and their merger as the Institute of Technology in 1968 to the current evolution as Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi in 2012.
The Institute is leading in several engineering disciplines in the Country. Even though the institute has embarked on the journey of scientific and technological advancement as a mission to
match international standards, human values are never compromised. “Education is character” is the doctrine of this Institute. We strive to attain various goals but not at the cost of values, principles and character building.
