About CSIR-CCMB
The Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) is a leading research institution focused on advanced areas of modern biology. Its goals include conducting high-quality research, training, and fostering national facilities for cutting-edge biological techniques. Established in 1977 as a semi-autonomous centre, CCMB originated from the Biochemistry Division of the Regional Research Laboratory (now IICT) in Hyderabad, with Dr. P M Bhargava as its first head. It became a full-fledged national laboratory in 1982 and later moved to a larger campus to support its growing research initiatives.
About training program
The program is designed to provide hands-on research experience rather than traditional classroom training. Each selected student is paired with a CCMB staff scientist who will mentor them throughout their project work. Students will also attend a series of lectures on topics such as popular science, scientific ethics, and good laboratory practices. At the end of the program, they must submit a project report and present their work in a poster session. While efforts are made to align students with their research interests, laboratory assignments depend on space availability, so students should be prepared to work in any CCMB lab.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to the following students from all branches of life science studying at any Indian University/ College/ Research Institute.
- MSc. / MTech / MPharm Program: Students admitted in 2024 (who completed the first year of MSc./ MTech/ MPharm are eligible).
- BTech. / BPharm Program: Students admitted in 2022 (who completed three years of B. Tech are eligible).
- Integrated BTech-MTech or BSc-MSc. or BVSc: Students who completed the 8th semester (or four years of their study are eligible)
- MBBS / BDS students who have completed three years of study are eligible.
- B.Sc in Biosciences 4 years program: Students admitted in 2022 (who completed three years of B.Sc are eligible)
Note: 3 years B.Sc program students are not eligible
Application procedure
An authorization letter from the HOD/ DEAN of the Institute/ University/ College for the Summer Program- 2025 should be submitted online. The names of the selected candidates will be posted on the CCMB website. It may be noted that no separate intimation would be sent to any candidate, and thus, all applicants are expected to check the ‘selection list’ on CCMB website and send their consent.
Important Points
- Applications for Summer Program 2025 must be submitted online.
- The program duration is 60 days (approximately eight weeks), and selected candidates must stay the entire duration without any breaks.
- Applications submitted before this notification will not be considered; candidates must reapply using the official application form.
- Students must upload their marks/grades from 10th grade onward. If grades for certain semesters are unavailable, a certificate must be submitted stating that results are awaited.
- Incomplete applications will be rejected.
- Selection is based on academic excellence and a Statement of Purpose (SOP).
- The average chance of selection is less than 10% due to high competition.
- The institute’s decision regarding selection is final.
- Canvassing or any form of external influence will lead to disqualification.
- An authorization letter from the Head of Department/Dean in the prescribed format is required for all candidates.
Boarding/ Lodging
CCMB will not provide accommodation. Students have to make arrangements for their stay during the training period.
