About the Organiser

The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi (IIT Mandi) is one of eight newer Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). IIT Mandi is a research university now located in Kathmandu Valley, Mandi City in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, and has 132 faculties with 1,655 students enrolled at undergraduate, postgraduate, and research levels. Currently, the university has 1,141 alumni. Since its inception, the institute has been involved with more than 275 Research and Development (R&D) projects worth more than Rs. 120 crores.

About the Conference

• The conundrum of finding a consistent first principle causal mechanism for the origin of consciousness and conscious experience has virtually baffled the greatest thinkers of our time. Despite ongoing advances in consciousness studies, we have not been able to answer the so-called ‘hard problem’ of consciousness satisfactorily. Interestingly, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) have addressed the issue within a holistic framework without necessarily adhering to the physicalist and reductionist paradigms of modern science.
• Specifically, IKS provides a number of interventions from yoga sutras, Sankhya, Ayurveda, and other traditional texts. The international conference, “Mind, Brain, and Consciousness (MBC): Perspectives from Indian Knowledge System,” organized by the Indian Knowledge System and Mental Health Applications (IKSMHA) Centre, envisages a healthy discussion among scientists and philosophers on consciousness as well as different IKS interventions for cognitive wellness and mental health.
• The conference will be the first of its kind to bring together scholars from all walks of life, i.e., neuroscientists, psychologists, AI and robotics researchers, physicists, mathematicians, biologists, computer scientists, traditional scholars, and practitioners of Indian Knowledge Systems, etc.
• We welcome papers and posters from all the areas mentioned above. The conference will have plenary talks, parallel sessions (for paper and poster presentations), and brainstorming panel discussions.

Guidelines for Paper Submission

Conference accepts extended abstracts and/or full-length papers based on original work. The extended abstracts, if accepted, will be published as web proceedings on the conference webpage. In contrast, full-length papers, if accepted, will be published as proceedings with a publisher (e.g., Springer). Extended abstracts should be limited to a maximum of 1000 words including 2 figures and 2 tables (references are not counted in the word limit). Full-length papers should follow the Springer template. In both extended abstracts and full-length papers, excluding references and citations, the amount of similarity to published sources should not be more than 15% and similarity to a single source should not be more than 4%.
