Application Process
- Applications for Doctoral/MTech/MDes/MS(R)/MA programs should be submitted only online through the Application Portal: https://www.iitg.ac.in/admission.
- Applications will not be accepted in any other mode.
- Before submission of applications, please go through the information provided on this admission website carefully.
- Candidates need to register only once on the Application Portal. Under the same login, candidates can submit applications to multiple programs and disciplines. But, the application fee should be paid separately for each application.
- Submission of an online application is a three-step process. Unless all three steps are completed, the
application will not be treated as complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered for processing.- Step-1: Personal information including the educational qualifications.
Step-2: Selection of program.
Step-3: Online payment of application fee.

- For submission of applications to different programs and disciplines, the candidates have to repeat step-2 and step-3.
- Application & Processing Fee: In step-3 of the online application process, each candidate needs to make
payment of application (processing) fee online as per the following:
All Female Candidates: Rs.150/-
All Transgender Candidates: Rs.150/-
All SC/ ST/ PwD Candidates: Rs.150/-
All Other Candidates: Rs.300/- - Applications without successful (online) payment of the application fee shall be rejected.
Selection Process
- Applications of the candidates which are complete in all respects are considered valid.
- For each program, the respective department/school/center will process the valid applications discipline-wise and/or specialization-wise.
- MEC: The applicants who do not satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria and norms will not be considered for shortlisting/selection process.
- Shortlisting: The Institute reserves the right to consider a limited number of eligible candidates for selection the process by setting additional shortlisting criteria based on the performance in GATE/NET/CEED, grades/marks in the qualifying degree examination and/or other educational qualifications starting from Class 10.
- The shortlisted candidates shall be considered for the selection process.
- Selections for MA/MDes/MS(R)/Ph.D./Dual Master’s + Ph.D. programs shall be based on the performance of candidates in the previous educational qualifications and in the written test and/or interview conducted by the respective department/school/center.
- COAP: Regular category seats for GATE-qualified candidates in the following disciplines of MTech the program shall be offered through COAP (https://coap.iitkgp.ac.in/):
- Biotechnology.
- Bioengineering.
- Civil Engineering.
- Computer Science and Engineering.
- Chemical Engineering.
- Electronics and Electrical Engineering.
- Mechanical Engineering.
- Data Science.
- Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
- Biomedical Science and Engineering.
- Such applicants have to follow the COAP schedule for accepting the offered seats. Selection of such applicants will be, typically, based on only the GATE scores. However, for certain disciplines/specializations, the department/school/center may also decide to conduct a written test and/or interview (which will carry a maximum of 30% weightage).
- Selections for other categories (regular with IIT Degree, and non-regular) for the MTech programs listed above (in point (i)), and for all categories for all other MTech programs shall be based on the performance of candidates in the previous educational qualifications and in the written test and/or interview conducted by the respective department/school/center.
- Mode of Selection: The selection for a particular program and discipline will be conducted in one of the following modes, as decided by the respective department/school/center:
- Offline: All stages of the selection process shall be completely offline for which the candidates have to come to the campus and participate in the selection process.
- Online: All stages of the selection process shall be completely online through video conferencing through MS Teams, G-Meet, etc., as per convenience. For no stage of the selection, the candidates need to come to the campus.
- Hybrid: Some stages of the selection process shall be Online and some stages of the selection process shall be Offline. At every stage, the selection process shall be either Online or Offline for ALL the candidates shortlisted for that stage. That is, in a particular stage, it is not permitted to conduct the selection Online for one candidate and Offline for another candidate.
- The mode of selection might vary from one department to the other department/school/center. Also, it may vary from one program to the other program within the department/school/center. The mode of selection for a particular program and discipline will be announced along with the schedule of selections.
- For the Ph.D. program, the shortlisting and the selection may be done specialization-wise by the respective department/school/center.
- Applicants have to visit this website and the websites of respective departments/schools/centers regularly for information regarding shortlisting and selection of candidates. No personalized information can be expected in this regard. IIT Guwahati will not be responsible for the delayed response from the applicants.
- The results of shortlisting and selection shall be announced on the Application Portal. The applicants may log in to the portal and check the results.
- For any queries on the shortlisting/selections, the applicants can contact the DPPC/SPPC/CPPC Secretary or the Head of the Department/School/Centre.
Results and Acceptance of Seats
- The candidates can check the updates on shortlisting/selections on the Application Portal. The applicants may log in to the portal and check the updates from time to time.
- The candidates who have participated in the selection process can check the status of the results on their login to the application portal. The result information includes whether the candidate is Qualified or Not. If qualified, whether a seat is offered or on the waitlist. If wait-listed, the current wait-list number for OPEN seats as well as reserved category seats, if any.
- The candidates who were offered seats have to accept the seats by making the payment of a requisite fee before the last date mentioned there. Otherwise, the seats will be offered to those next on the waiting list.
- The selection is provisional, subject to the production of all the relevant documents at the time of admission.
- The selection may be canceled at any point if the candidature is found to be against the ordinances, rules, and regulations of the Institute.
- Selected candidates whose qualifying degree results are awaited shall have to produce their original Pass Certificates and Mark Sheets as per the timelines decided by the Academic Affairs Section.
- After accepting the offered seat by paying the requisite fee, if a candidate wants to withdraw, he/she can express the same on the application portal latest by 15 July 2023.
- If the withdrawal request is received by 15 July 2023, a sum of Rs. 1,000/- only shall be deducted from the fee deposited. In case of late requests, only a refundable portion of the fee deposited shall be returned. Applicable the refund amount shall be sent from IIT Guwahati in October 2023.

- For notification regarding candidates selected for admission, admission offer letter, etc., IIT Guwahati will NOT send any hard copy letter to the candidates by post.
