NIT Trichy
The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of the river Cauvery, was started as a joint and cooperative venture of the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu during 1964 with a view to catering to the needs of man-power in technology for the Country. The College has subsequently been conferred with autonomy in financial and administrative matters to achieve rapid development. In 2007 by the act of parliament, NIT-T became an Institution of National Importance.

NIT Surathkal
National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is located in Mangalore City, Karnataka State, India. The Institute was established as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in 1960 and upgraded as the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. The functioning of NITK is governed by NIT Act, 2007 and by the rules laid down by the Government of India from time to time. NITK is governed by the Board of Governors which consists of representatives of the Government of India, Government of Karnataka, Alumni, Industry and other bodies. The Chairman of the Board of Governors is nominated by the Government of India.

NIT Calicut
National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of the 31 institutions of national importance set up by an Act of Parliament namely the ‘National Institute of Technology Act 2007’, and is fully funded by the Government of India. The mandate of the Institute is to provide higher technical education and conduct research in the various branches of Engineering, Science, Technology and Management.
Originally established in 1961 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), it was transformed into a National Institute of Technology in 2002. The Institute offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs in Engineering, Science, Technology and Management. The Institute was jointly established in 1963 as Malaviya Regional Engineering College Jaipur by the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan. Subsequently, on 26 June 2002, the college was given the status of National Institute of Technology. On 15 August 2007, it was recognized as the Institute of National Importance through an Act of Parliament.
