About the Program

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the space agency of India. The organisation is involved in science, engineering and technology to harvest the benefits of outer space for India and the mankind. ISRO is a major constituent of the Department of Space (DOS), Government of India. The department executes the Indian Space Programme primarily through various Centres or units within ISRO.

ISRO was previously the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), set up by the Government of India in 1962, as envisioned by Dr. VikramA Sarabhai. ISRO was formed on August 15, 1969 and superseded INCOSPAR with an expanded role to harness space technology. DOS was set up and ISRO was brought under DOS in 1972.

The prime objective of ISRO/DOS is the development and application of space technology for various national needs. To fulfil this objective, ISRO has established major space systemsfor communication, television broadcasting and meteorological services; resources monitoring and management; space-based navigation services. ISRO has developed satellite launch vehicles, PSLV and GSLV, to place the satellites in the required orbits.

Eligibility for Internship

  • Internship opportunity shall be extended for UG/ PG/ PhD students (a Citizen of India) pursuing from a recognized University/ Institution (India/Abroad) in the disciplines of Science/Technology or have completed within six months of the application.
  • The duration of the Internship work will be a maximum period of 45 days.
  • The student should possess an aggregate of a minimum of 60% or a CGPA of 6.32 on a scale of 10.

All the students wanting to pursue academic project work in DoS/ISRO shall possess an aggregate of Min. 60% or CGPA 6.32 on a scale of 10.

Other Information

  • The internship/ project work will be allotted based on the availability of expertise, projects, facilities, and suitability of the student’s course to the work carried out at the respective Centre/Unit.
  • All applications received will be scrutinized by the respective Centre/ Unit as per the norms.
  • The Project Trainees/ Interns shall not be eligible for any stipend/ remuneration/ financial assistance.
  • The Project Trainees/ Interns shall not be eligible for accommodation facilities during their internship in DoS/ISRO Centres/Units. However, subject to availability, Centres/Units may extend Guest House/Hostel Accommodation facilities, on a chargeable basis or may provide quarters for accommodation on a sharing basis. Charges shall be collected on par with employees. The students shall be extended canteen facilities on par with regular employees.
  • Certificate will be awarded to Project Trainees/ Interns upon satisfactory completion of their project/ internship and on submission of their assignment report and its evaluation by the concerned division heads.
  • The Project Trainees/ Interns shall be permitted only to UNCLASSIFIED areas of DoS/ISRO labs/ establishments.
  • The Project Trainees/ Interns shall take clearance from Centres/Units for publishing papers/reports through external agents with regard to work done in DoS/ISRO Centres/Units.
