About NARL

NARL is an autonomous research laboratory fully funded by the Department of Space, Government of India and involved in carrying out fundamental and applied research in Atmospheric and Space Sciences. It had its humble beginning in 1992 as the National Mesosphere-Stratosphere-Troposphere(MST) Radar Facility. Over the years several complementary techniques such as Rayleigh/Mie lidars, wind profilers have been added. NARL is administered by a Governing Council with Secretary, DOS as the Chairman and Director, NARL as member secretary. The Governing Council sets broad policy guidelines for NARL. A Scientific Advisory Committee consisting of eminent scientists in the field of atmospheric science, monitors the research activities and progress of NARL and provides future directions.

Who can Apply?

  • Students pursuing M.Tech/MCA/M.Sc/B.Tech or equivalent course preferably in Atmospheric Science/ Physics / Electronics / Computers from the Government /AICTE/University recognized institutes for NARL Internship
  • The number of Project batches shall be limited by the availability of Guides at NARL and suitability/relevance of the Topic/ Project to NARL Internship
  • Each project batch shall not contain more than three students.
  • All students should have scored more than 65% throughout the career.
  • The minimum period of the project should be more than 3 months.

How to Apply?

  • A request letter (addressed to Director, NARL) for project work from Head of the Department/Principal of the College/Institute. The letter shall contain:
    • Names of the students
    • Duration of the project and likely commencement date of the project and that carrying out project/training is part of curriculum
    • Topics on which project needs to be carried out
  • This letter should be accompanied by detailed biodata of all the students of the batch with subjects taken at various academic levels, Project work details. The information provided should be sufficient to take a decision. |
  • Requests from Individuals are not considered.
  • The above request letter shall reach us at least 30 days before the required start date of the Project Work/ Training to the following address:

  • Upload your details by Apply online option or an e mail to director[at]narl[dot]gov[dot]in and spc[at]narl[dot]gov[dot]in is to be sent with the scanned copies of the signed letters from Head of the Institute.
  • Projects /Training shall be offered mostly on First come First Basis to the eligible batches and on the availability of the Guides at NARL. However in any case not more than two batches will be taken from same college. Decision by NARL shall be final.
  • Upon confirmation, a week before the start date, a letter along with Guidelines to be followed at NARL will be sent by e-mail to the HOD., to be forwarded to the project students..
  • Project work/Training Procedure :
    • Project Work/ Training Programme at NARL is based on Guide- Student relationship whereby NARL Guide allocates the project, guides the student(s) and may give assignments to complete the project work.
    • On completion of the Project Work, the Guide and Coordinator, Student Project Cell will sign the project completion certificate.
  • Others:
    • Any Publication/Communication to any Journal that results from the work shall have consent of the Guide and NARL. No accommodation, Transport, stipend shall be provided to the project students. There is no fee for carrying out project works at NARL. NARL reserves the right of not considering any or all requests and close/discontinue the Programme without assigning any reasons. Canvassing in any form will be a disqualification.
