Job Details: Research Intern at ABB

- This role contributes to the India Corporate Research Center (INCRC), located in Bangalore.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Assisting research scientists in researching, developing, testing, and optimizing ML models for industrial automation i.e. working with sensor data, time series, and process logs for preprocessing, feature engineering, and model experimentation.
- Build and test AI prototypes using Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and industrial AI tools, evaluating model performance on industrial benchmarks, simulations, and real-world data, while optimizing for GPU efficiency, distributed training, and MLOps workflows.
- Collaborate with domain experts to define AI-driven solutions for industrial process challenges, supporting use case exploration, requirement gathering, and feasibility analysis.
- Assess AI models using key industrial metrics (accuracy, robustness, explainability, scalability), develop visual dashboards, support pilot projects and AI integration into industrial automation systems.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical documentation, reports, and research publications.
Required Skill Sets
- Pursuing a full time Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, as a bona fide student, during the entire tenure of internship and with a no objection certificate from the placement center of the Institute.
- Programming: Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and Scikit-learn for ML development.
- Understanding of supervised/unsupervised learning, time series analysis, deep learning (including foundation models) and reinforcement learning. Understanding of statistics including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals etc.
- Understanding of time-series foundation models is advantageous.
- Should have ability to collaborate and communicate effectively in English with internal and external partners.
