About S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences
The S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences is an autonomous research institute engaged in research in basic sciences. The institute was founded under Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in 1986 as a Registered Society. The Centre was established to honour the life and work of Professor S. N. Bose who was a colossal in theoretical physics and has made some of the most fundamental conceptual contributions in the development of Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Statistics. The Centre has emerged as a major institution for research and development in Basic Sciences.

Eligibility
Students in 1st / 2nd year of M.Sc. or 3rd / 4th year of B.Sc. (4-year programme) or 4th / 5th year of Integrated M.Sc. in Physical, Chemical, Biological and Mathematical Sciences (including Physics, Applied Mathematics, Applied Optics and/or Photonics, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Electronics, Engineering Physics, Material Sciences, Nanotechnology)
Salient Points
- This is not equivalent to an M.Sc. dissertation.
- On-campus accommodation may be provided based on the request and availability of hostels rooms on the basis of payment of rent (currently Rs. 200/- per day).
- Access to computational and library facilities will be provided as per rule of the Centre.
- Each candidate must submit a formal Joining Letter as per rule of the Centre
- Candidates who have extramural funding support (INSPIRE, INSA, NASI, etc.) for the
Summer Project must mention it clearly in their application. - At the end of the project, students are required to give a presentation on their work and also submit a project report for the award of completion certificate
- Selected candidates must abide by the rules and regulations applicable to the regular students of SNBNCBS
Duration
The project will be for a period of eight weeks (with no break) under the supervision of a Faculty Member of SNBNCBS. Extension of tenure / alteration of tenure are not allowed

- Students must contact (through email) and get consent of the respective faculty members before submitting the online application. The list of members of the faculty of the Centre and their fields of research are available in the website of the Centre www.bose.res.in.
- Updated CV should be uploaded during online application.
- No objection certificate (Click here for format) from the HOD / Dean / Principal / Director of the Institution (in the official letterhead along with the seal) should be updated during online application

Financial Support
- Selected students who are funded by SNBNCBS will receive:
- Rs 12,500 per month to cover all the expenses including hostel fee
- Return AC III tier train fare for the shortest route between their place of work and nearest railway station to SNBNCBS
