Indian Railways is a statutory body under the ownership of the Ministry of Railways of the Government of India that operates India’s national railway system. Indian Railways runs various classes of express, passenger and suburban trains. In 2018-19, it operated 13,523 trains on average daily covering 7,325 stations and carried 8.44 billion passengers. Indian Railways also operates different classes of rail freight transport.

Educational Qualifications

• Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the trades of Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright / Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio & TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic_(Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature & Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning Mechanic. (OR)
• Matriculation / SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the trades mentioned above (OR)
• Matriculation / SSLC plus three years Diploma in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics / Automobile Engineering (OR)
• Combination of various streams of these Engineering disciplines from a recognised Institution instead of ITI. Note: A degree in the Engineering disciplines as above will also be acceptable instead of a Diploma in Engineering.

Qualification Criteria

• Candidates must ensure that they fulfil all the prescribed educational and technical qualifications for the post on or before the closing date for applying this CEN. Candidates waiting for final results of prescribed educational /technical qualifications are not eligible to apply.
• Applications must be submitted ONLINE only through the official RRB websites. Candidates can apply to only one RRB and only one application per candidate will be accepted for the notified post in this CEN.
• Applicants who submit more than one application against this CEN shall be disqualified and debarred.
• Eligibility of the candidates will be provisional based on details furnished by the candidates in the application.
• The RRB will not undertake detailed scrutiny of applications for eligibility, therefore, candidature will be accepted only provisionally subject to fulfilling basic eligibility criteria as required.
• Selection of RRB: RRB-wise & Railway-wise vacancies indicated in this CEN are provisional and these may increase or decrease as per the requirement of the Railway Administrations concerned. Candidates can choose only one RRB and indicate their preference for Railway Zones notified under that chosen RRB only.
• A candidate must be either:
  • a citizen of India, or
  • a citizen of Nepal, or
  • a subject of Bhutan, or
  • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before 01.01.1962 to permanently settle in India, or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently settle in India.
  • Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit

• Minimum age limit is 18 years to 30 years for all categories
• Date of Birth (DOB) as mentioned in the Admit Card or Pass Certificate or Marksheet of Class 10 issued by the concerned Government Recognized Education Board will only be considered as valid proof of date of birth. No other document will be accepted for verification of date of birth.

• Candidates must first ‘Create an account’ for this CEN through the link given in the official RRB websites below. They must have an active personal mobile number and a valid email ID for receiving OTPs for account creation. No change in details filled in the ‘Create an Account’ form (including mobile number and email ID) will be permitted later.
• Candidates are allowed to choose only one RRB and submit only one ONLINE Application for the notified post through the official RRB websites.
• No other mode of application will be accepted.
• Fee can be paid by the candidates through ONLINE mode only. There will be no option to pay fee through any other mode.
