About IIIT Delhi
IIIT Delhi is a premier research institution that explores the evolving relationship between technology, society, and governance. We seek a highly motivated Research Associate to contribute to critical discussions on the political theory of AI, focusing on governance, regulation, and ethics.
This role provides an exciting opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of political theory, policy analysis, and AI ethics. With the main objective of contributing to developing a political theory understanding of AI, the project aims to study the discourse on how AI technologies impact democratic institutions and governance structures. This research is enabled by a seed grant from the Infosys Centre of Artificial Intelligence, IIITD, and a project grant from the ICSSR.
Role Overview
As a Research Associate specializing in the political theory of AI, you will conduct in-depth research on AI governance, regulatory frameworks, and the ethical dimensions of AI deployment. Your work will contribute to scholarly research and policy recommendations for governments, industry stakeholders, and civil society.
Key Responsibilities
- Research & Analysis – Conduct critical research on political theories of AI governance, regulatory frameworks, and ethical challenges.
- Literature Review – Analyze academic and policy literature, identifying gaps in existing discussions on AI governance.
- Policy & Legal Assessment – Evaluate AI-related policies, legislation, and governance models at national and global levels, focusing on their implications for democracy and social structures.
- Ethical & Philosophical Inquiry – Examine AI through the lens of justice, fairness, accountability, transparency, and fundamental rights.
- Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Engagement – Work closely with legal experts, technologists, and social scientists to develop a well-rounded understanding of AI’s impact on governance and political systems.
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for candidates with:
- A postgraduate or equivalent advanced degree in Political Science, Political Theory, Public Policy, Philosophy, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to critically assess policy documents, academic literature, and legal texts
- Expertise in political theory and public policy, with a focus on technology ethics, digital governance, or AI regulation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex ideas to academic, policy, and public audiences.
- Experience in interdisciplinary research or collaboration on policy, technology, or legal studies is a plus.
