The Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (CGPDTM) has officially announced the Patent Agent Examination 2025. Scheduled to be held on January 5, 2025, this exam is an essential opportunity for aspiring Patent Agents across India. Below are the key details:
Exam Details
- Date: January 5, 2025
- Locations: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, and Thiruvananthapuram
- Sessions: The exam will be conducted in two sessions:
- Objective Type: 2 hours
- Descriptive Type: 3 hours
Syllabus
The syllabus for the Patent Agent Examination includes:
- Patents Act, 1970
- Patents Rules, 2003
- Designs Act, 2000
- Designs Rules, 2001
- Matters related to IP Jurisprudence
Notably, this year’s syllabus introduces “IP Jurisprudence” in place of the previously included “IP Administration.” The guidelines are not fully clear on the scope of “IP Jurisprudence,” but they represent a significant shift in the exam content. Additionally, due to the amendment in Rule 110 via the Patent Rules 2024, the exam will now also include questions from the Designs Act and Rules.
