Job Overview
Nearly 99% of computer owners are unable to program, and even experienced developers often face challenges in writing precise code. With the emergence of program synthesis in AI, we can help users—whether they are beginners or seasoned developers—create programs quickly and accurately. In program synthesis, the computer writes the code itself. Users simply need to communicate their requirements—either through examples or natural language—and the synthesizer generates the corresponding program. This approach significantly enhances productivity across various fields, from data preparation to code editing.
- The PROSE team is advancing the state of the art in program synthesis and shipping these innovations through flagship Microsoft products like Excel, Visual Studio, PowerShell, and SQL Server Management Studio.
- PROSE has developed a powerful and flexible framework for program synthesis that leverages logical reasoning and machine learning techniques and combines them uniquely to synthesize programs automatically.
- This approach has been recognized with regular papers at top-tier conferences; a few of them won best paper and test-of-time awards.
Responsibilities
- Microsoft is hiring Research Fellows for one-year appointments, which are extensible for another year and have the potential to develop into full-time research track appointments.
- Their team provides a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge AI research and real-world impact, solving customer problems on a global scale.
- Fellows will actively contribute to state-of-the-art systems and research, collaborate with, and be mentored by expert engineers and researchers from various backgrounds.
- They will write code that ships in production to millions of users and write research papers that advance the field of program synthesis.
Qualifications
- Either a current student finishing up an undergraduate or master’s degree in the next month or a recent graduate in 2022.
- Strong programming skills

- Excellent communication skills
- A keen interest in both research and engineering
- Background in programming languages/compilers or machine learning/AI
