About Bharat Fellowship 2025
Every public service that people rely on—whether it’s dialing ‘112’ in an emergency, receiving a speeding ticket, or when the government plans rural road upgrades, supports women’s groups, provides health insurance to seniors, or offers scholarships—depends on digital systems operating behind the scenes. These technological processes often go unnoticed unless they fail.
The effectiveness of a government’s ability to serve its citizens is deeply linked to its capacity to harness technology that serves everyone, all the time. These essential systems require skilled technologists who grasp the nuances of public service, policy, and the complexities of implementing tech solutions within intricate social structures.
- The Build for Bharat fellowship aims to identify and cultivate early-career public-interest technologists who will enhance, modernize, and humanize the digital technologies that address India’s pressing public and governance challenges.
- This initiative seeks to place the nation’s top engineering and design students at the core of some of India’s most challenging governance efforts, bridging the gap between cutting-edge technology and public service.
- Fellows will be placed in government departments in partnership with our program. Here, they’ll work on high-impact tech projects that either improve the lives of millions or enhance the effectiveness of government operations.
Mentorship
Fellows will have access to online office hours with leading experts in databases, security, distributed systems, open-source technology, and design—drawn from top tech companies, academia, and the public sector.
Future Public Technologist
Fellows will undergo a curate and rigorous orientation program, so they understand the realities of public service, policy, and the unique challenges of implementing tech solutions within complex social frameworks.

What does the Fellowship offer?
Real-World Problem-Solving: For 2.5 months this summer, Fellows will be placed in government departments in partnership with our program. Here, they’ll work on high-impact tech projects that either improve the lives of millions or enhance the effectiveness of government operations.
Public Technologist Orientation: Before and throughout your placement, you’ll undergo a rigorous orientation program—diving deep into how public systems operate, why large-scale tech solutions can fail, and how to build resilient, responsible systems that account for India’s societal and policy complexities.
Expert Mentorship: You’ll have access to one-on-one office hours with leading experts in databases, security, distributed systems, open-source technology, and design—drawn from top tech companies, academia, and the public sector.
Who should apply?
- Graduating 2025 or 2026
- Students who are graduating in 2025 or 2026. Others will not be eligible for the program.
- Skills thet are looking for
- Demonstrable experience and solid skills in either Design (UI/ UX/ User Research), Cybersecurity, Full Stack, Data Science, GIS or Product Management
- Builders & Changemakers
- Those who have commitment to use their skills for broader social good. Problem-solvers who question, build and drive change.
Stipend
INR 40,000 per month.
Duration
2.5 months this summer.
