The School of International Futures Ltd. (SOIF) invites applications for the NGFP Fellowship 2024 for All Graduates. The deadline to apply is May 31, 2024.
About NGFP
The Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) was launched in 2018 by The School of International Futures (SOIF) as an awards programme to recognise the endeavours of the next generation in shaping the future. The NGFP Awards were designed to identify, celebrate, amplify and accelerate the work of a diverse group of young leaders and innovators worldwide using futures and foresight to drive positive change.

About NGFP Fellowship
The fellowship allows young professionals to gain more support as they explore the future and foresight fields. We know that being a futurist can be a lonely place and a sort of practice that young people, particularly, do on the side of their daily jobs, usually for free. The fellowship is a way to provide the next generation of futures and foresight enthusiasts with a platform to connect with like-minded people worldwide, receive mentorship and build foresight capability, participate in regional and sector-specific hubs, and access funding to develop their foresight projects. Fellows also have the opportunity to participate in highly relevant events in the futures and foresight field and connect with today’s decision-makers at the highest levels.
Who can Apply?
Anyone between 18 and 35 years old and those older but with less than five years of experience using foresight. They are particularly enthusiastic about applications from those living in the Global South and those working on the world’s most complex issues, or Foresight Transformation Missions, as we refer to them. Every year, we make sure we have at least two fellows under 25 years old. In 2024, they will reserve one spot within our cohort for a fellow from the Balkans. This is our way to honour the memory of a great SOIF colleague, Sophie Middlemiss, who passed away in 2021 and was passionate about the region. For the first time in 2024, we’re reserving space in the fellowship for emerging practitioners from the Middle East & North Africa region in partnership with Dubai Future Foundation.
Funding Support
At the journey’s beginning, each fellow receives a USD 1,000 prize to develop and accelerate their project. By the end of their one-year journey, all fellows can run for the Fellowship Main Prize, which consists of a more substantial grant (at least USD 10,000) and acknowledges those who made the most of their journey.
What does a successful application look like?
- You must have a project or idea with a clear theory of change of how you will use futures and foresight methods to create better alternative futures.
- You should be able to demonstrate how you will engage your community in your project and explain how insights into the future will help you create positive change in your local, regional, or global community today.
- They are very interested in knowing why being part of the NGFP Network is important for you and the development of your project. And if you are completely new to foresight, we would like to hear more about what has motivated you to start your project.

FAQs
Can my application focus on any area or sector?
Yes, NGFP welcomes applications from any area of expertise or sector, as long as they use futures and foresight approaches to address relevant issues and create positive transformation. However, certain global issues require urgent attention and close collaboration across sectors and generations to be properly addressed. They call these Foresight Transformation Missions, and they will prioritise applications working on one of these areas. They have identified seven Foresight Transformation Missions: Climate and Just Transitions, Nuclear Security, Democracy & Governance, Intergenerational Fairness, Emerging Technologies, Indigenous and other future methods from Around the World and Peacebuilding. In future years, some of these Foresight Transformation Missions may remain a priority, others might be deprioritized, and new ones can be added, depending on the signals we are identifying and the choices of our members.
Who will judge my application?
Our judges are a diverse and international group of foresight experts, activists, innovators and ambassadors. They are invited to join the judging panel due to their deep commitment to our values and desire to support the next generation in becoming active participants in shaping the future. Judges are responsible for assessing the Fellowship applications, evaluating projects and selecting those who will participate in our fellowship journey. Many of our judges are so passionate about NGFP that they become mentors to our fellows.
What if my application is not selected?
If your application does not make it to the final selection of this highly competitive process, it means that you are not selected to participate in our Fellowship journey this year. However, this is far from the end of your story with us. If your application is considered high-quality, future-focused, and demonstrates alignment with our vision of a better, fairer, and more equitable world, you can still join our NGFP Network. As a member of one of the world’s largest global networks of next-generation foresight practitioners, you will have access to various opportunities! And, of course, you can always apply again in the future to become a fellow – many fellows become so after a year in the network.
How many fellowships are available?
We have 20 to 30 fellowships available each year.
What if my project is not related to a Foresight Transformation Mission?
You can still apply for our Fellowship even if your project is unrelated to one of our Foresight Transformation Missions. They will invite 10-12 fellows who are not affiliated with any of the Missions.
