Eligibility: International Scholarship

You must:

  • be a commencing or enrolled international student
  • have an outstanding record of academic achievement and research potential
  • have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in a master’s by research or PhD at the University of Sydney.

  • Academic transcripts– If you are a current student who has previously studied at another university, you must provide copies of your transcripts with your RTP application (even if you have already provided them with your application for entry into the degree).
  • Evidence of publications, output in the arts or music, professional experience– If we cannot verify your publications, they cannot be counted towards your application. See the research experience guide (pdf, 410KB) for details on what you need to provide with your application, and the format to be used.
  • English language requirements– Please note that results of English Language Proficiency Tests including IELTS, TOEFL and PTE are not required to assess your scholarship application. You may need to submit these documents to the Admission Office for your admission application.
  • Scanned documents– The University accepts scanned documents submitted online in support of applications for admission to courses of study and photocopy of documents for RTP applications.

Selection Criteria

  • The submission deadline refers to the date a student will need to meet, in order to be considered for an offer round.
  • New students can be considered for an RTP scholarship by completing the course application by the submission deadline. Current HDR students will need to submit a separate application by the submission deadline.
  • If you are a prospective student and have elected to be considered for an RTP scholarship, as part of your application for admission, please ensure you submit and all mandatory documents by the submission deadline.
  • For example, if you are an international student and wish to receive an RTP scholarship outcome in February 2024 and are commencing in research period 3 or 4 2024, you will need to complete your submission by 21 December 2023.
  • Academic merit, research experience, availability of a high-quality research environment and resources to support the candidature, and availability of high qualify supervisory arrangements to support the candidature.

  • Funded by the University of Sydney and valued at up to $143,881 this scholarship provides a living-costs stipend to support outstanding international research students.
  • For 2024 awards, the scholarship is valued at $40,109 per annum. The scholarship assists with tuition fees and living costs.
